About the Company

Trusted Connectivity for AI-Powered Dominance.

Everfox delivers trusted connectivity to protect the world's most critical environments and safeguard the sensitive data powering decision advantage.

Built for mission-critical operations, Everfox protects what matters most by securing how data moves, how users access it, and how threats are neutralized across every domain. We enable mission speed and secure collaboration across networks, domains, and allies, while ensuring the data powering AI and advanced analytics remains trusted and protected.

We don't just defend systems; we deliver decision dominance.

  • Our Purpose: Protect what matters most by enabling organizations to operate security in the most complex and high-risk digital environments.
  • Our Vision: To be the most trusted authority in high-assurance cybersecurity, enabling secure collaboration across every domain.
  • Our Belief: Security should never limit mission success - it should enable it.
Our Promise: We deliver absolute confidence in environments where failure is not an option.

About the Role

As a software engineering intern at Everfox, you'll gain hands-on experience in the defense tech industry, working alongside experienced cybersecurity engineers across the software development process as a full member of the team. You'll use AI as part of the team's everyday workflow, with mentorship to help you build both the skill and the judgment to use it well.

Your projects will span our Cross Domain Solutions portfolio, the technology that moves data securely between networks of different security levels. That work takes many forms: research, tool development, and product engineering, across the full cybersecurity stack, from hardware and firmware to operating systems, applications, and human factors.

Pay: $35/hour

The Intern Experience

The internship is a real entry point into the defense tech industry:
  • A path to full-time - we aim to convert every intern who performs well into a full-time engineer
  • Real projects, your choice - genuine engineering work you help select: pick from available projects to start, then propose your own, join an existing effort, or embed with a team
  • Broad exposure - you're encouraged to work in a different area with each project to maximize your learning
  • A culture of support - a project lead and their team, a program coordinator, fellow interns, and often a peer mentor from a past cohort
  • Built-in learning - "Biz Topics" with executives and senior leaders, "Tech Topics" with senior technical leaders and architects, a hands-on Linux course, and more
  • UIUC Research Park - encouraged to take part in Research Park training and events
  • Give back - a group volunteering project each summer
  • Flexible timing - start in the summer, with the option to continue part-time in the fall, spring, or both
  • Social events
Requirements

We're looking for candidates who share our commitment to our mission: protecting customers against complex cyber threats with innovative, high-assurance solutions.

Required:

  • Able to obtain a US Government security clearance
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher (any field of study)
  • Demonstrated software development, debugging, and testing skills - comparable to a computer science or related degree, or equivalent experience
  • Graduating August 2027 through May 2028
Ideal candidates also have many of the following:
  • Cybersecurity coursework, work experience, or strong interest
  • Comfortable with at least one language (Rust, C, Java, or Python preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Linux experience (development or system administration)
  • Experience with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Cursor)
Don't meet every single qualification? Studies show people are hesitant to apply if they don't meet all requirements listed in a job posting. If there is something slightly different about your previous experience, but it otherwise aligns and you're excited about this role, we encourage you to apply. You could be a great candidate for this or other roles on our team.
